Michigan State started the tourney off with another win for Tom Izzo. Duquesne then delivered the first true upset of the day, followed by Oregon winning as an 11-seeded favorite, Nevada getting outscored 24-4 in the final 8 mins to lose to Dayton, and Coach Cal is out again after the first round, but don't worry, they'll be "fine." Samford tried to send another blue blood packing in Kansas, but the referee had other ideas.

Coach Calipari, under a lifetime contract, showed once again why people for years have scrutinized his coaching abilities. To allow a kid who attempted less than 10 2-pointers (eight) all season long, to make 10 3-pointers when he attempted over 300 of those, is pretty crazy. He's coached like he has forever to figure it out since he got the deal in 2019, but the contract buyout folks have pushed their chips to the center of the table, and the Wildcats could have a new coach by the end of next year's tournament.

RESULT: WON

Closed -134 range, dominant performance, Cousinard was spectacular, and Dante is a grown dude.

SELECTION: GONZAGA -6.5 (-115)

RESULT: WON

Gonzaga looked the class on paper and they walloped a fairly popular trendy upset pick by 21, it was never even that close.

BEST BET SELECTION: WASHINGTON STATE ML (-104) FANDUEL

RESULT: WON

Was a struggle in the second half, lost the lead early and trailed by as many as 8 with less than 8 to go, but they went on a run, found a way to win, and even covered the -4.5 that I thought it should be, PK was "good enough" value and it worked out in the end.

FRIDAY BETTING SLATE

The Women's Tournament kicks off today, and I'm starting to think they probably should not be trying to compete with the men for "equal TV time" in March.
